Winter Wonderland: Best Ski Resorts for a White Christmas

There are many families who enjoy their holiday periods abroad, as Christmas can be chaotic when you have a large family. That is why people will go on holiday with their close family, enjoying a break away from the cold weather or even a ski holiday. Ski holidays are great for people who want to be active when they are abroad; however, they are not a cheap holiday for the average family. Nevertheless, they can make the perfect Christmas destinations, allowing you to have some festive fun and to improve your health! Let’s delve into some of the best ski resorts around the world that you can enjoy with your family.

Zell am See, Austria

There are many wonderful countries in Europe that you can visit that are perfect for a ski holiday. Austria is one of those countries that is perfect for ski slopes, and yes, it can be on the more expensive side but they are perfect for your festive holiday.

The first on the list has to be Zell am See and there are roughly 138 km of ski slopes which also have an ice skating rink. Additionally, this ski resort also comes with a woodwork Christmas market which is crafted by the local craftsmen. There are also many hotels which you can stay at around this Ski resort, so you can either go for a more luxurious hotel or just a small log cabin for you and your family. Furthermore, there is a selection of restaurants which offer a stress-free Christmas meal so the parents don’t need to worry about cooking.

St Anton, Austria

Up next is another fantastic ski resort located in Austria and that is St. Anton. The perfect getaway for a family looking to celebrate Christmas or another destination. This place is fantastic and people dress up in devil costumes, which are a hundred years old, as this is their tradition. It is a slightly different take on Christmas compared to the US and the UK; however, it is an experience like no other.

The Christmas markets are certainly something that the children will also enjoy. Not to mention the wonderful ski resort that they have. With over 300 interconnected ski resorts and over 200 km of runs, there is something really special about St. Anton and its ski resorts. For those who have never been to Austria, there is no better place to celebrate Christmas than this fantastic ski resort.

Les Gets, France

Next up is Les Gets, France. Another great destination for those who love a ski resort and France is one of the best places for it. Although people can enjoy France during the height of summer, it can also be a country that is adored during the winter. Not to mention the fantastic ski resorts where you can have some festive fun.

Les Gets is a highly rated ski resort because of how child-friendly it is. It is a child’s dream to enjoy Christmas at one of these ski resorts. Furthermore, you have guided tours of a wonderful enchanted forest, which is also great for the children. Again, this is perfect for the little ones as Father Christmas tells his magical stories as he lives with his elves. Plus, there is an elf workshop which includes face painting and chocolate making.

Les Gets gets involved with the festive fun as Father Christmas skis around the village. Then on Christmas Eve, you can expect the ski slope to be lit with fireworks throughout the night and when you walk around in the evening, you can expect to see carved ice sculptures in the village. There is no better place to celebrate Christmas than Les Gets.

Megève, France

Next up on the list is Megeve, which is also located in France. This is the type of ski holiday that you can expect on Christmas cards. It is a very majestic holiday destination that many people love, especially during the festive season. Its village has plenty to offer with a large Christmas tree in the centre, decorated with luxury Christmas baubles and more.

Now, when it comes to skiing, it is up there with one of the best in Europe, especially during the festive period. It has 4 ski slopes that are over 400 kilometres and it is the perfect place for those who wish to enjoy festive fun while skiing.

Aspen, USA

If there’s one thing our friends over the pond do well, it’s Christmas as well as Halloween, New Year, and the rest. If there is anything that Americans are good at celebrating the holiday, it makes this a good place to consider spending the festivities. For those who find Christmas charming rather than overwhelming, then Aspen is one of the spots that take it as a challenge and fully transform themselves into a winter wonderland.

Wreaths, red ribbons, decorations and festive culinary delights are served and it’s a great way to feel Christmassy without being at home. Why not ice skate across the outdoor rink and together as a family grab a hot chocolate and mulled wine while talking the night away? There is also a sleigh ride available for those travelling with children, gingerbread house making and cookie decorating, so there is an activity for everyone.

Val D’isere, France

My university came here for their ski trip and I heard nothing but amazing things in terms of resort, activities and community. While this is a popular spot for young adults, it’s also a family favourite during the quieter seasons and is very popular during Christmas and New Year.

Enchanted Christmas runs from the 23rd to the 29th of December and includes giant snow sculptures, family-friendly activities and live shows for you to visit the real-life Santa! Walk through the lit-up town centre and enjoy the magic of Christmas in one of the most surreal and Christmasy locations in the world.

If you happen to spend your Christmas day here, I would recommend you go visit the French National Ski Schools Christmas spectacular, which hosts a huge fireworks display, great for the adults and kids to see on such a special day.

Summary

There are many wonderful places around the world that you can visit for a skiing trip; however, there is something special about a holiday during the festive period. You are guaranteed snow and that can make it even more special.

It is difficult to enjoy Christmas when there is a lack of snow, although you don’t have that issue when it comes to a skiing holiday. Yes, they can be expensive but they are great for those who enjoy getting away for the festive season.
