From Breakup To Glowup: How To Turn Heartbreak Into A Positive

Breakups are one of the hardest things to go through, there’s no denying that. But in amongst the tears and heartache lie a few positives. It just requires you to take a step back, take a deep breath and look at the situation from a different perspective. That’s what I had to do recently, and I’m here to tell you how I transformed my breakup into a glowup.

Breathe

The first thing to do when going through a tough time after a breakup is to take a minute for yourself. Even if it’s as simple as taking a deep breath and counting to ten every time you feel like you are about to burst into tears.

You’ll find that this helps rationalise your thoughts and break up the constant, negative feelings that overwhelm our minds when going through a tough time.

Talk

Another small act that sounds so simple. Yet it’s one that we often choose not to do when dealing with an uncomfortable situation. Talking about your emotions is the first sign that you’re doing ok, regardless of whether you find yourself offloading your issues to your mum, your friend, or your therapist

If you are still finding it difficult to speak about your recent breakup, talking doesn’t have to involve speaking about your current situation. Simply going for a spot of lunch or a coffee with a close friend can work wonders in terms of taking your mind off things.

Exercise

This is where the glowup begins. You may find yourself with unanswered questions, pent-up anger or feelings of self-doubt; channelling these emotions into a gruelling gym session is the best way to keep them at bay.

It’s also the best time to smash PBs and find a new level of consistency with your training as you find yourself wanting to stay busy, but also with a new level of determination to bounce back from a tough time.

Journal

More and more people are turning to journaling to help keep their lives on track, but it’s also a fantastic coping mechanism after a dose of heartbreak. When journaling after a breakup, try to incorporate goals and objectives rather than just rambling.

It’s a good idea to tie goal setting with your newfound gym routine. Set yourself targets to smash, whether that’s losing a few pounds or simply staying consistent.

Treat Yourself

Post breakup, you’ll probably find yourself with more time on your hands and more money left over at the end of each month. And there is absolutely nothing wrong with spending this money on yourself by putting it towards your glowup.

Whether it’s booking a last-minute getaway to top up your tan, treating yourself to an outfit you’ve had your eye on or even splashing out on a mini neck lift – do whatever makes you happy and leaves you looking and feeling great about your new self.
