4 Ingenious Ways To Incorporate Tequila In Your Cooking

While many are familiar with cooking with wine, they miss the benefits of cooking with tequila. This Mexican liquor is made from the blue agave plant in the highlands of Mexico. Here are some fun ways that you can incorporate this liquor into your cooking.

Marinade in Tequila

The next time you want to marinade meat, consider using a tequila and lime marinade. Simply combine 1/2 cup olive oil, 1/4 cup lime juice, 1/4 cup tequila and one envelope dry Italian dressing seasoning mix. Let your chicken, flank steak or roast sit in the mixture in the refrigerator overnight. Alternatively, prepare it early in the morning and let the meat soak until supper time. Then, prepare it using your favorite recipe for a delicious main entree that is sure to please.

Make a Fruit Salad

Your friends and family will rave about a fresh fruit salad made with a tequila dressing. You could use pretty much any type of tequila, like those from HWC. Watermelon, strawberries and pineapples taste great in this salad but feel free to experiment with your own fresh fruit. In order to make the dressing, simply combine 1/4 cup agave nectar, 1/4 cup tequila and the zest and the juice of three limes. Toss the fruit to be sure that each piece is evenly coated. Then, serve immediately.

Prepare a Glaze

It is easy to prepare a tequila glaze for ham, chicken or another meat. You can even use it on salmon or another fish. Bring ¾ cup pineapple juice, 1/3 cup tequila and 1/4 cup honey to a boil in a small saucepan. Then, add two teaspoons cornstarch, two teaspoons water, two teaspoons lime rind and three tablespoons fresh lime juice. Whisk constantly until the mixture returns to a boil. Remove from heat and use the tequila mixture as a glaze on your favorite dish.

Assemble a Last-Minute Treat

If you loved Chex mix as a child, then you will adore this grown-up version made with tequila from Cosmopolitan. Start by tossing together 1 1/2 cups toasted rice squares, 1 1/2 cups wheat cereal squares, 1 1/2 cups honey-sriracha cereal squares. Then, two cups pretzel sticks in a large bow as your base. Melt 1/4 cup butter and stir three tablespoons lime juice, one tablespoon tequila and 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar into it.
