What’s Behind The American Smile?

What's Behind The American Smile?

Everyone wants that perfect American smile, the one with the straight perfect teeth and the pearly white shine. With the introduction of advance nanotechnology such as silver nanoparticles and Titanium Dioxide, it’s never been easier to get that Hollywood smile.

Here’s a few tips and tricks to get the perfect set of pearly whites:

  1. Remember to floss your teeth. Remove leftover food by flossing, it doesn’t matter what type of floss you have as long as it’s effective. Ensure you go in between all of your teeth to remove all unwanted food. This helps prevent the build-up of plaque and the risk of gum disease.
  2. Use mouthwash morning and evening post brushing and flossing. This will help flush away any leftover food or plaque which has been dislodged after brushing and flossing and will leave you minty fresh!
  3. Invest in a quality toothbrush. Investing in an electric toothbrush will help with the removal of plaque, food substances and eliminate bad breath. Manual toothbrushes mean you run the risk of brushing gums too hard which can lead to gum recession and not brushing teeth for long enough. A good electric toothbrush can time how long you brush your teeth for you and will alert you when you are brushing too hard.
  4. Choose an effective toothpaste with antibacterial properties. The recent addition of silver nanoparticles to toothpastes helps reduce the risk of gum disease and reduces bad breath caused by bacteria in the mouth.
  5. Avoid substances such as wine, coffee and curry. All of these stain your teeth. If you simply cannot go without your weekend glass of wine or caffeine intake, then try and reduce the amount.
  6. Avoid sweets and eat healthily! Eating sweets on a regular basis is harmful, both to your teeth and your body (not to mention all those additional calories being added to your waistline). Acids and sugars from foods can wear away enamel. Crisps and bread are also filled with sugars and stay stuck in teeth for longer periods of time. Try and brush after each meal you eat and be mindful to eat sweets, bread and crisps in moderation.
  7. As with sweets, the consumption of too much fruit juice can wear away enamel. The acids in orange juice, apple juice and other fruit based drinks can wear away at your teeth’s enamel over time. If you drink a lot of juice, then it may be a good idea to fill the glass with a quarter or a half of juice and the rest with water; this is good for your teeth and body, as it will help hydrate you.
  8. Remember to brush both your gums and tongue. It is important to remember to brush the entirety of your mouth, this means your teeth, gums and tongue. Lightly brushing your gums will help prevent diseases such as Gingivitis. Brushing your tongue will help get rid of nasty, yellow build up on the top of your tongue and will help prevent bad breath.
  9. It may sound simple, but go to the dentist! You should visit your dentist every 6 months and this will help avoid any problems. Along with the routine cleaning which removes plaque and tartar build up, your dentist will be able to check your teeth for cavities and other defects or problems. More often than not, going to the dentist isn’t the most fun thing in the world, but a regular visit can save you money and future pain and problems.

Finally, don’t forget to smile! Even if your teeth aren’t pearly white and perfect, a big smile will help cheer up yours and every else’s day.
