The 2013 US Open is now just a week away and for the PGA’s elite players this is one of the biggest four days of their seasons. Pennsylvania’s glorious Merion course plays host to the tournament this year and fans can expect a few surprises to unfold.
The big story in the golf betting news is Tiger Woods’ form heading into this major. The world number one has been in fine fettle this season, claiming four titles already, but a disastrous third round at the Memorial Tournament proved he can slip up fast.
Woods is a man built on confidence and it was conviction in his own ability that earned him 14 previous major titles. He’s found his putting eye once again and is back strong on the tee, so bar a freak upset the American will contest for the lead come Sunday.
Woods will likely be joined by Memorial Tournament winner Matt Kuchar, whose stunning 12-under finish in Ohio earned the 34-year-old his first title of the season. Kuchar also placed second at the Crowne Plaza Invitational, so is the form man to beat.
Masters champion Adam Scott is also a good shout to be on the leaderboard come Sunday but golf betting punters should back away from Rory McIlroy. The Northern Irishman may have blown the field away two years ago in Bethesda but the 2011 US Open champion is not going to repeat that feat here.
McIlroy just cannot get his swing right and that deficiency was proven at Wentworth and Ohio over the past few weeks. He may have a solid two days to make the cut but will drop by Saturday evening.
The same can be said for Graeme McDowell who, despite the short Merion course favouring his style, hasn’t got the grit right now to challenge for a major, while Brandt Snedeker and Phil Mickelson will both fall short as we enter the final day.
