Many people gain weight while they are in college. In fact, studies have shown that the average person gains between three and 10 pounds during his or her first two years of college. Unhealthy food choices are readily available in college, which is one of the culprits behind weight gain. Additionally, many students are not getting the recommended amount of exercise.
The good news is that if you exercise regularly, then you will be able to prevent yourself from gaining weight. There are a number of exercises that you can do right in your dorm room. Below are four dorm room exercises:
Jogging In Place
You do not have to go outside to jog. You can jog in place inside of your dorm room, and the workout can be just as effective. You can burn over 500 calories in an hour if you jog in place. However, it is important to note that the actual amount of calories that you burn will depend greatly on your weight and sex. You want to make sure that you drink plenty of water while you are jogging so that you can keep yourself hydrated.
You can also get a great workout by jumping rope. You can burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time by performing this exercise. In fact, you can burn about 12 calories per minute by jumping rope. This means that if you jump rope for 31 minutes, then you can burn 370 calories. This is equivalent to the amount of calories that is in a Whopper, JR. If you do not have a jump rope, then you should mimic the movements. That will be just as effective as using an actual jump rope.
Dancing will not only give you a great cardiovascular workout, but it is also a lot of fun. You need to have fun while you are exercising. You are much more likely to stick to a working out program if you allow yourself to have fun with it.
All you have to do is put on some of your favorite tunes and dance around the room. You can burn over 200 calories an hour if you dance at a slow pace. If you dance at a fast pace, then you can potentially burn over 450 calories per hour.
Jumping jacks allow you to work your upper and lower body simultaneously. If you perform jumping jacks for 30 minutes, then you can burn nearly 300 calories. Furthermore, jumping jacks are classified as a weight bearing exercise. If you perform weight-bearing exercises at least three times out of the week, then you will be able to keep your bones strong. This can reduce your risk of developing osteoporosis.
Again, exercising can help prevent you from gaining the freshman 15. Jogging, jumping rope, dancing and jumping jacks are just a few of the many exercises that you can do without stepping foot outside of your dorm room. Additionally, you need to make sure that you are following a sensible diet along with your exercise program.
