We have all been there – it’s Friday and you are just getting back home from work and all you see is the dust, stains, and dishes that need to be cleaned. What do you do? Your body so sleep, your mind says hire a maid, and maybe some part of you is actually thinking about cleaning.
How can you avoid this scenario? Here are 5 ways that you can have a cleaner home throughout the week starting today.
1. Be Consistent
It’s better to clean a little bit every single day than it is to clean one time a week. Why? It’s simple – cleaning one day a week puts stress on you and means that your home will be very clean for about 2-3 days. On the other hand, cleaning a small amount every single day will ensure that your home is constantly clean (for the most part), and it also allows you to actually enjoy your days instead of needing to block out 4-5 hours for cleaning.
So, the first rule of thumb is to remember to be consistent instead of putting cleaning aside.
2. Don’t Pack it All into One Day
One of the worst things that you can do is clean every little thing in your home on one day. As mentioned above, this only leads to stress and it’s actually not that efficient of a way to clean. Instead of viewing cleaning as some kind of chore, view it as a lifestyle. You WANT to clean because you know you are more creative in a clean environment, you feel better about yourself when you have a clean home ,etc.
You can find a way to justify cleaning and stick to it.
3. Think Ahead
Here we go, the infamous “think ahead” point, right? Well, guess what – this point works. If you actually take the time to think ahead you can save yourself the hassle of always feeling like you’re behind. This is a general philosophy for life, but it is illustrated with the concept of cleaning very well.
For example: if you know that you want to just relax on Saturday, think about it on Monday and clean on the days leading up to Saturday. If you don’t do this you’re either going to have to clean on Saturday or you’re going to leave your house messy.
4. Make it Fun
Who said cleaning has to be boring?! Turn on some music, consider it a workout, or talk on the phone while you’re cleaning. You don’t have to bore yourself to death like those frightening grayscale infomercials.
Just remember – it’s all up to you to make cleaning fun.
5. Don’t give up
There is nothing worse than someone who starts something but just gives it up after a week or two. Stick with cleaning and don’t forget these 5 steps and you can be sure that your home will be cleaner, and that you will be more satisfied.
