With the summer holidays just round the corner, trying to get yours kids out to enjoy the weather and avoid them sitting in front of the TV all day can be a difficult task. Rest assured there are a range of events, activities and ideas that will not only keep your kids entertained, but can be fun for the whole family!
Planning activities is the most important, making sure you plan ahead of time will help avoid the kids being tempted to sit around in front of the TV all day. Plan activities and days out for each day (Obviously with some downtime in between, you want them to have fun, not exhaust them!), here are some suggestions that might give them a cracking summer;
Walks and Tours
London hosts a variety of historic walks around the city that visit popular landmarks. Ever wanted to visit the locations made famous by the Harry Potter films? Take the ‘The London that Inspired Harry Potter Tour’ and see where the famous Hogwarts Express left from. The tour runs once a week throughout summer and more information can be found on ‘The Walks’ website.
Sports Club
Exercise is vitally important for the health and wellbeing of your kids. Get them signed up to a sports club. They offer a range of activities and can start to build those important life skills. UK Football Trials are a fantastic way to get your kids learning team skills as well as building confidence and friendships. They might take an interest and become world famous players in the future! Kite flying
An activity that will really get them outdoors, weather permitted! Either nurture your child’s creativity and help them build a kite from scratch or buy a pre-made one. Building one is an excellent way to get more involved with your kids, with very imaginative results! The Kite Society of Great Britain offers information on special days where kite flyers can meet up and talk with the experts.
Experience the Countryside
Get your kids out and explore the English countryside. Visit National Parks websites near you to get information on summer events and activities. It is also a great way to experience woodland life, with a bit of hiking and climbing too! If there are no events being held, why not create your own bug/animal hunt? Take a bicycle and cycle through the forest.
Why not check out local council websites, this can be a good way to get information on summer activities for kids. Some other suggestions that will be easy on your wallet include the beach, taking them to the park or purchasing sports equipment for your back garden. Sometimes the weather can be unpredictable and while it can be a last resort, the Kinect for the Xbox 360 has a variety of physical games that imitate sports events, so your kids can still get some exercise on those rainy days. With a little forward planning and some ingenuity, your kids can have an action packed, exciting summer!
