The Best Destinations To Explore Solo In 2017

Sometimes you just want to take a holiday on your own, and be pampered to the fullest. You don’t necessarily have to travel with someone to enjoy yourself, and traveling alone does have its perks. You will not have to conform to someone else’s schedule, you can choose what to eat and where, you can sleep in as long as you like, and you will get to spend some quality time with yourself, which is not a chance you often get.

Where to travel is quite another matter. You can chose to be adventurous and go trekking somewhere, or you can go for the more laid-back approach, and laze away the days.

Here are a few ideas to help you get inspired:

Paris, France

Not quite what you think of when we say solo travel, is it? Paris is usually described as a city for couples, but there is no reason to miss out on its beauty, just because you might not be a couple. There are so many museums you can explore, you will not even notice you are doing it on your own. You can enjoy your morning coffee in the streets of Paris alone, munch on some of the delectable French dishes, and walk to your heart’s content. You can also keep a dairy of your adventures, as a memento of your travels, which will always remind you of the great times you had when you visited Paris on your own.

The Big Apple

If you have watched Sex and the City, you know that the city of New York is in fact the fifth character. Carrie Bradshaw claims to be in a relationship with it throughout her time there, and the Big Apple will do what it can to help you enjoy your stay. From the Met to Central Park and the Brooklyn flea market, you will never be bored, and never feel alone. In fact, you might at times feel a bit too crowded. You are also more than likely to meet a bunch of fellow solo travelers, so you can join your exploration forces if need be.

Morocco

If you do want to go somewhere a bit more exotic, and experience the allure of the desert, Morocco is where you need to go. The colours of the sunset will mesmerize you the very first night, the food will awaken your palate, and you will be amazed by the different cultures. Take a hike up the Atlas Mountains, or rent a car and drive through the sand. If you are looking to truly pamper yourself, book yourself an all inclusive holiday package, and let the stress melt away.

The Greek Islands

If you are however in the mood for beaches and deep blue seas, than any of the Greek islands is the right choice. From smaller islands where you can truly feel alone and enjoy the smell of olives, to larger ones crowded with tourists where you can mingle and dance the night away, the one thing that is true of all Greek islands is that the sea is wonderful, clear and crisp, and that the sunsets are magical. Try some of the local lamb with spices, or enjoy the local wines. Remember to take some olive oil with you back home, and wear sunscreen, as the sun can get quite strong.

The Croatia coast

On the other hand, if Greece is not your cup of tea, you can also choose to travel to Croatia, which is fast becoming the destination of choice for many of those who wish to enjoy a bit of paradise. The beaches on the coast are lovely, and you can also explore some of the smaller islands as well. If you are visiting further south, make sure you stop by the city of Dubrovnik, a true Mediterranean gem, and explore the Old Town and its walls, and immerse yourself in the history of the area.

Pack your bags and get ready to go – don’t let fear or discomfort stop you. There is no reason why you shouldn’t enjoy a holiday alone. In fact, you will get to know who you are, and get to know different cultures, people and cuisines on your own, at your own pace, which you might not be able to do with someone else holding you back. Let go of your preconceived notions, and enjoy your travels!
