So, you want to go on a holiday but you’re not sure where you want to go? We’ve all had that dilemma! There are so many countries, regions, cities and towns in the world that just making this simple decision can be a bit overwhelming for some people. I know I find it hard to pick where I want to go next from my ever growing bucket list. Maybe you’ve got a list like me and you’re having trouble picking just one place to spend your holidays. Or maybe you don’t have a list at all and are completely clueless about where to start in terms of choosing the perfect holiday destination.
Read on to find out how you can narrow down your list, find a destination that is perfect for your needs and begin the travel planning process with ease.
Where to Start
Ok…let’s begin, it’s important to first establish what you want out of a holiday, whether that be adventure, relaxation or sightseeing. Once you’ve established what you want to achieve out of the holiday it will make it easier to narrow down possible destinations. Now it is important to match your needs with the destination, if you are after a relaxing holiday then you wouldn’t be looking at a destination like New York, instead perhaps a Caribbean island with a secluded beach or hotel with a spa. Likewise if you are looking for an active adventure holiday, why not try a tennis holiday in Dubai? With the action packed day of tennis activities and the casinos and restaurants at night you won’t get bored!
What if you want the best of both worlds? Time to relax while also seeing some of the sights without too much hassle getting around. South East Asia, Australia or Southern Europe for example, are perfect places to relax while still having lots to keep you busy when you feel like it.
Finally, maybe you’re after total cultural immersion to learn a language, learn to cook the local cuisine or really get under the skin of a place’s history and culture. These experiences can be had anywhere in the world, it really depends on the exact type of experience you’re after. For example you want to learn to cook Italian, then why not get the plunge and go to Italy!
When to Go
Choosing when to go is a very important factor for a lot of destinations, for example you can only go skiing in skiing season! However, if you want a beach holiday then try and choose a region that is in summer season so you can get the best weather possible. Remember that different countries have different cultures and events going on, therefore it’s a good idea to do a bit of research before you book to make sure that you are avoid any major festivals, holidays and events so you will get the best deals and cheapest prices.
The Final Decision
Hmmm still can’t decide? Maybe you have a list of a few destinations in mind but still can’t narrow it down? Then why not ask your friends and family for help, they may be able to shed some light on the advantages and disadvantages of each place that you didn’t think of before. Remember that this is your holiday and that what might interest you might not interest others – so take others opinions on board as helpful guidance not rules!
