The Top 10 Essential Home Improvements For 2013

It’s a New Year and it’s time for a new start! …Come on, we’ve heard it all before; we say we’ll go to the gym 4 times a week but the closest we get is driving past it on the way to the pub. We promise we’ll cut out junk food yet we only seem to remember this promise and we finish off a delicious 4 cheese pizza with extra cheese!
We might be rubbish at keeping to our New Year’s resolutions but essential home improvements aren’t something that you can neglect; especially with the extreme weather we’ve been having.
Of course, we’re not made of money so we have to be selective about which parts of your home deserve sprucing up in 2013. Take your pick:

Windows

Your windows have a massive impact on the energy efficiency of your home and of course, the cost of your energy bills. If your windows are quite looking their best then replacing them can improve the look of your home inside and out as well save you money!

Security

There’s simply no point making home improvements without first ensuring that your property is secure. Protect your home and your family against criminals and then you’ll be free to make home improvements until the cows come home.

Exterior

They say that we shouldn’t judge a book by its cover but let’s face it, any visitors to your home will immediately judge it on the exterior appearance. Keep the outside of your home clean and perhaps look at redoing your driveway to improve the overall appearance.

Interior

Your home should reflect your own personal tastes and sense of style so it’s understandable that you’d want to keep your interior design up to date. When you need to relax after a hard day at work there’s nothing worse than coming back to a home you don’t feel comfortable in; give your walls a lick of paint and pick out a few new ornaments or maybe artwork to refresh your home.

Central Heating

If your central heating system is particularly old or you’ve had problems with it in the past then it could be costing you a small fortune! Don’t put up with it. Repairing or replacing your boiler could save you money and make your home a more comfortable place to be.

Drains

If you’ve got a problem with your drains you simply can’t ignore it; it’s not going to go away by itself. The smell is atrocious and the mess that can follow isn’t something that anyone enjoys: it’s not a nice job so call in the professionals.

Garden

The weather might not be looking too great at the minute but soon enough the sun will be shining and you’ll want to sit out in your garden. Make sure you think ahead and get your garden looking great well ahead of time; do you want it to get to summer and have to sit out in a jungle of weeds?

Renewable Energy

2013 is all about the environment for Britain and the Government is set to make big changes to reduce our carbon footprint. Do you bit for the environment and look at which renewable energy sources could be good for your home. Solar panels and heat pumps are perfect for domestic use.

Kitchen Appliances

Make sure your kitchen appliances are up to date; a lot of the older models won’t be as energy efficient as the newer versions. Don’t wait for your appliances to break down before you start thinking about replacing them!

Extension/ Conversion

If you’re up a bigger project in 201, then an extension or a conversion is the perfect way to improve your home and add to its value. Make sure you do your research and get in a reputable company to do complete the work though!
What are you waiting for? It’s time to refresh your home, save money and create a great place for you and your family to enjoy life.
