Taking Your Kids To The Great Barrier Reef – Activities For Kids

Home to many small beautiful islands, the Great Barrier Reef is easily accessible from Cairns,

Australia, is the largest coral reef in the world and also a very popular tourist destination,

with travelers from around the world regularly flocking to the northeast of

Australia to experience it for themselves.

Did you know that it is the only living organism that can be seen from space?

The Great Barrier Reef contains over 2000 kilometers of islands and coral reefs and

hosts thousands of species of marine life.

There are many tours and activities to do but if you have children coming with you on this trip,

some of these activities may be restricted to adults only.

However, here are some great activities for children to enjoy and something they will never forget.

Green Island

This beautiful island is located on the Great Barrier Reef and surrounded by white sand and clear blue waters.
The children will love playing in the water and building sand castles while the adults take time out to relax and enjoy the sun and sea.
There is even a resort located on the island if you want to stay a few days, although it is very exclusive and may require you to have a celebrity-esque budget!
They have several activities available such as volleyball, nature walks, snorkeling, glass bottom boat tours and much more.
While you’re there don’t forget to take the kids to crocodile show at the Marineland Melanesia where they can see Cassius, the largest crocodile in the world.
They can even get a chance to take a photo while holding a young baby crocodile.
Don’t worry, the crocodiles’ mouths are secured closed!

Snorkeling

This is a great activity for children as well as adults. The children will never get bored as most kids love the hands on activity and the ability to explore and discover.
This also gives them the opportunity to interact and meet with other kids that are snorkeling as well.
The salt water keeps them buoyant so they don’t have to be great swimmers.
This is a unique way to introduce children to swimming and build their confidence in the water while experiencing one of the most inspirational places in the world.

Semi-Submersible Boats

Although some younger children would love the opportunity to dive but are restricted because of their age,
taking them on a semi-submersible boat is an activity that’s exciting for children and adults as well.
Children will enjoy viewing and exploring the beautiful underwater coral reefs and colorful tropical fish along with other marine life and not get wet.
Often times, when families plan trips such as these, they always wonder if it’s a good idea to bring the children along.
But a trip to the Great Barrier Reef will stay cherished in their memories forever.
This kind of trip is not only memorable but extremely educational as they will learn and explore the great beauty of the marine life, climate,
and the largest coral reef system in the world. Who wouldn’t want this great opportunity of a lifetime?
