says Dr Bradley Goldberg&comma; an obstetrician and gynaecologist&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;&&num;8220&semi;The vast majority of women who get pregnant after age 35 are going to have normal babies and healthy pregnancies&period;&&num;8221&semi;<br &sol;>&NewLine;But getting a double line on a pregnancy test may be more difficult&comma; and the chance that a 35-year-old will have a miscarriage is 20 per cent&comma;<br &sol;>&NewLine;compared to nine per cent for women in their 20s&comma; according to a study in the British Medical Journal&period; one in 105 at age 40 and one in 12 by the time a woman is 49&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;If you&&num;8217&semi;re pregnant and over 35 your GP or obstetrician may recommend an in-depth sonogram or an amniocentesis to test for levels of birth defects&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Tests won&&num;8217&semi;t prevent birth defects&comma; but it&&num;8217&semi;s recommended for women over 35 so they can learn more about risks and potential problems&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Taking the pill for umpteen years&quest;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Some people think taking oral contraceptives is like working at your desk for too long&period; Take a break and you&&num;8217&semi;ll feel better&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Advice about on-again&comma; off-again pill-taking may have stemmed from early research about hormonal side effects &&num;8211&semi; specifically cancer&comma; birth defects&comma; blood clots or weight gain&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;But the pill was high in hormones when it arrived in 1960&semi; today most oral contraception is low in hormones&period; &&num;8220&semi;Some doctors used to say&comma; &&num;8216&semi;You&&num;8217&semi;ve been on the pill a while&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Let&&num;8217&semi;s come off it for a few months and give you a rest&period; And staying on the pill long term can actually have health benefits&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;While women have a 10 to 20 per cent chance of getting breast cancer while on the pill&comma; studies also show that the hormones can reduce risk of uterine cancer by 40 per cent after two years of being on it and 60 per cent after four years&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;Ovarian cancer risk decreases 50 per cent after four years and 80 per cent after 10 years&period;<br &sol;>&NewLine;And if you smoke&comma; here&&num;8217&semi;s one more reason to quit&colon; a study in the American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology showed that smokers taking oral contraceptives are 30 times more likely to have a heart attack&period;<&sol;p>&NewLine;<h2><strong>Breaking My Bones&quest;<&sol;strong><&sol;h2>&NewLine;<p>Bones&comma;
