America's Food: The Top 6 Places Truckers Love To Eat

If you make your living blazing down the highway, chances are when you pull your truck off the highway for a little rest and
relaxation one of the top considerations for pulling over is what sort of food you’re going to be able to get when you get there.
After a long day or night at work you want good food.
No one knows the best out of the way roadside grub palaces than the men and women who travel across it every single day hauling goods from one place to another.
The following is the top six places in America where truckers love to eat.

1. Cooking From Scratch, Doolittle, MO

When your rubber is rolling down Route 66 near Doolittle Missouri and you see a giant chicken perched atop an old El Camino take that exit and make your way to Cooking From Scratch.
When they say cooking from scratch they mean it.  They pan fry by hand each piece of their fried chicken in cast iron skillets when you order it.
The Big Pig is a must have if you’re a fan of pulled pork.   Delicious made from scratch desserts that are too tempting to pass up include bread pudding and blackberry cobbler.

2. Blue Gate Restaurant and Bakery, Shipshewana, IN

If you happen to find yourself in the heart of Amish country in Indiana you might have to put up with some super slow Amish buggy drivers in order to get to the Blue Gate Restaurant and Bakery in Shipshewana,
Indiana but the wait will be well worth it once you dig into their awesome selection of baked goods like their can’t be beaten fresh baked bread with apple butter or amazing zucchini loaves.

3. Iowa 80 Kitchen, Walcott, IA

This is nothing short of trucker paradise.  Built in 1964 it is the worlds largest truck stop.
It’s also probably the world’s largest salad bar since the bar measures 50-ft.  The restaurant dishes up hearty reasonably priced American food.
Naturally it’s open 24/7 because truckers don’t punch a nine to five clock like the rest of us.  When there be sure to visit the trucker’s museum and showroom.

4. The Big Texan Steak Ranch, Amarillo, TX

When in Texas eat like a Texas trucker at The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, Texas.
Located in what is arguably the steak and beef capitol of the world, the place is famous for its 72 inch steak dinner which is free for anyone that can wolf it down in under an hour.
This famous roadside joint dishes up over a half a million meals a year so you know it’s doing something right.

5. Space Aliens Grill and Bar, Fargo, ND

OK, it’s an alien themed restaurant in the middle of nowhere. Here’s why it’s worth going to: The ribs at this place are out of this world.
If there is life on other planets coming down to earth they would surely be stopping at this place for the world class ribs.

6. Gladys Knight and Ron Winans’ Chicken and Waffles, Lithonia, GA

We will dispense with the classic midnight train to Georgia puns that come to mind when entering this pip of a soul food restaurant co owned by Gladys Knight and Ron Winans.
The place serves up classic southern food in classic southern style and does a great job of it.
From the fried green tomatoes, through the smoked turkey wings and down to the incredible peach cobbler this place puts out the dishes that keep people coming back for more.
